The opening of the Power Sector to private companies prompted the Government of India to envision a company capable of handling the construction, erection, and commissioning of IPP Power Stations, along with their subsequent operations and maintenance. This vision materialized in the formation of Utility Powertech Ltd. (UPL). Utility Powertech Ltd. emerged from a collaboration between the National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd. (NTPC), a Government of India undertaking, and Reliance Energy Ltd. (REL), a fully integrated power company. This innovative joint venture between public and private entities aimed to deliver state-of-the-art solutions in project construction, operation, maintenance, EPC, and consulting services, among others, showcased by UPL. UPL is steadfast in its mission to become a comprehensive Power Plant and Infrastructure Solutions Company, benefitting from the combined support of its promoters in offering value-added services for power and infrastructure projects.

The inception of the Company dates back to 1995, following the pioneering reforms introduced by the Government of India in the power sector. As the sector experienced the influx of major players, it became imperative to capitalize on the available opportunities in construction, erection, and other project management endeavors within the power domain. This encompassed services such as renovation and modernization (R&M), operation and maintenance (O&M), among others. Formally incorporated on November 23, 1995, in accordance with the provisions of the Indian Companies Act, Utility Powertech Limited (UPL) boasts representation from both its promoters, with Directors hailing from NTPC and REL. Both promoters are steadfast in their commitment to bolster UPL through equity, skilled manpower, technological support, and construction resources. Thus, UPL benefits from a distinctive advantage, leveraging the vast resources and efficient systems of NTPC Ltd. and Reliance Energy Ltd. (REL). Commercial operations commenced in 1997. UPL has emerged as a premier O&M service provider in the country, showcasing excellence in its operations. The company's prowess in this realm is underscored by its acquisition of the ISO 9001-2000 certificate for Marketing, Planning, and Monitoring of contractors engaged in Operation & Maintenance Services and Construction activities within the power and related sectors. Reflecting on the significant achievements of the past decade, UPL has cultivated a robust corporate culture, fostering a motivated team comprising top-notch professionals.
